Mock Trial and Training 2016

The ADC-ICTY held a Mock Trial and training, together with the International Criminal Law Bureau. The Mock Trial was held over one-week between 13 and 18 June in The Hague. The week included hands-on evening sessions for young professionals in the field of international criminal law and a one-day Mock Trial exercise in the ICTY courtroom in front of international judges.

The evening sessions focused on practical skills and expertise and are given by experienced Counsel to prepare participants for a career in international criminal law. Topics included "legal drafting", "oral trial advocacy", "opening and closing statements" and "ethics in international criminal law".

Feedback was positive here are some of the comments:

“I thought the mock trial was a great event. It felt as real as possible and the Judges were of really high quality in terms of their interjections throughout the day, the procedure and the types of questions they asked. All of the support services made the day feel like a real trial and enabled all participants to experience what it is like. I thought it was fantastic!”

” I thoroughly enjoyed the mock trail. I thought it was a great learning experience, and it was fantastic to have the opportunity to practise in a "real life" type situation. The feedback was very useful.”

“It was great! I felt like I learnt a lot on the day and the judges gave great feedback. It was one of the best experiences I have had.”
