ADC Members attend the International Criminal Defence Lawyers -Germany Conference in Berlin
On Saturday 27 January 2018, the International Criminal Defence Lawyers Germany (ICDL - Germany) held their annual meeting in Berlin. A number of ADC members attended the conference and Dominic Kennedy, ADC Head of Office, attended on behalf of the Executive Committee. The conference discussed current issues for defence counsel at the international courts and tribunals. The Kosovo Specialist Chambers’ creation and current status was presented by Judge Kai Ambos. A presentation was given by Joe Holmes on the Stanisic and Simatovic retrial at the MICT. Marija Brackovic presented next on defence investigations at the ECCC. During the afternoon session, Prof. Knoops discussed Forensic Science and Evidence at the international courts and was followed by Stephane Bourgon who gave an insight into the issues in the Bosco Ntaganda case at the ICC. Chief Charles Taku gave an overview of the practical challenges confronting counsel at the ICC. The conference concluded with practitioner reports from Jens Dieckmann and Natalie von Wistinghausen.
